Editor Simone Smith takes us on an tour of the process behind the film Firecrackers, which won her a CSA Award for Best Editing in Feature Film in 2019. A unique opportunity to hear about the technical and creative process of behind this critically-acclaimed indie gem. Smith will talk through her workflow for low-budget features, from start to finish, project organization in Adobe Premiere, and some creative tricks used in this film’s picture and sound design.
The talk will be moderated by Maureen Grant, Events Chair of the CCE board of Directors.

Simone Smith is a CSA-winning and CCE & DGC Award-nominated editor. In 2014, she attended the Canadian Film Centre’s Editor’s Lab. Since then, she's been working in long and short form narrative film work including Firecrackers, the short and feature-length versions of Never Steady, Never Still, as well as Goalie, about the life of Terry Sawchuk. She is currently editing Slash/Back, an alien-invasion adventure film from Nyla Innuksuk.
Maureen is a five-time nominee of the Canadian Cinema Editors Awards in three categories (short film, feature film, and web series). She is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talents ’19 and the Canadian Film Centre Editors Lab. Known for her work on features Pyewacket (Adam MacDonald) and Riot Girls (Jovanka Vuckovic), her upcoming work includes the CBC Gem series Queens, and the feature The Retreat, both directed by Pat Mills.
