C.C.E. MENTORSHIP PROGRAMThe Canadian Cinema Editors (C.C.E.), in an effort to promote better understanding of the craft of film editing is announcing the creation of a mentorship program for full-time film/media student members across Canada. In this era of desktop editing, the C.C.E. believes there is much more to learn beyond the mechanical task of pasting pictures and sound together. The editing of picture and sound is a small component of the craft-- there are numerous workflows, organizational skills, communication protocols and interpersonal dynamics-- as editors constantly interface with the set, their assistants, directors, producers, studios and networks. The C.C.E. Mentorship Program will be open to all full-time film/media students who are C.C.E. Associate Members. Applicants will be required to complete a questionnaire regarding their knowledge and interest in Post Production. The applications will be vetted by the C.C.E. Executive Board, who will then choose two applicants-- one in Toronto and one in Vancouver.

The successful applicants will spend two weeks in the cutting rooms of professional feature or television editors; observing how that editor builds a cut from the dailies or if timing and permissions are given, following a director’s or producer’s cut through completion. After the first week of observation as timing permits, the applicant will spend a second week with a different editor in order to observe how each editor distinctly works with their dailies and various cuts.

The C.C.E. membership is proud to offer this unique opportunity for students to learn firsthand from working professionals the remarkable storytelling that takes place in Canada’s cutting rooms.
